The Moral Impact of Technology
What are we to make of today’s technological advancements? Is technology just a positive good or does it have negative consequences?
I love my iPhone, laptop, Tivo, and TomTom. I truly believe that these things help to streamline my life and make me more productive, but I know that they can also often have negative effect on my life. How many times has my wife rightfully scolded me for yet again neglecting my family by being on my iPhone or laptop when I should be spending time with my family?
While technology can be can be a great thing, sometimes it can entice us away from the thing it is supposed to help. It is supposed to help me to be more productive. Productivity is meant to maximize our the use of time, and free us to enjoy our “time off”. It can also make us more social or less depending on how we use it. Over the course of the next few days, I will try to address these issues a little more in depth. Please let me know your thoughts.
